Contracting team on the road to ISO 14001

In 2017 our Contracting colleagues in Boroughbridge achieved ISO 14001 certification for the implementation of a new environmental management system.

Ed Thompson, service manager, and Jason Clarke, works manager, both received training on the new Tarmac Environmental Management System (EMS) for the contract looking after the care and maintenance of the Darrington to Dishforth stretch of the A1(M). Both men worked hard to implement the new system, identify any potential compliance issues and rectify them.

The British Standard Institution (BSI) attended the site to carry out an ISO 14001 assessment and were left impressed, remarking on the ‘exceptional standard’. BSI recommended certification with no non conformances or observations.

Ed said: This is an achievement that we should all be very proud of. The certification confirms that we have systems and controls in place to manage the environmental aspects of our work. It also gave us an opportunity to successfully demonstrate the high environmental standards we keep in Tarmac and the contracting business.
