A new wildlife discovery trail for children

Image

The outdoor play area encourages children’s imaginations with brilliant bug hotels, beautiful discovery trails, pond dipping opportunities and wild music making. It is packed full of information about minibeasts, recycling, the Water Cycle and composting to help children to understand the science behind the natural world and suggests activities they can get involved with, either independently or with the help of centre staff or their teachers.

We contributed almost £23,000 from the Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund, administered by the Derbyshire Environmental Trust and the funding has also allowed existing facilities at the centre to be upgraded.

Emma Wood, project manager at Derbyshire Wildlife Trust said: “It is such an interactive and informative play trail for children, we are delighted and cannot wait for children to come and explore, discover and learn through play. In addition, spending time outdoors following the trail will benefit the children’s and adult’s health and wellbeing so it is win-win.”

“We’re delighted to be able to support Derbyshire Wildlife Trust and the project at the Whistlestop Discovery Centre. It will be great to see children and adults enjoying the facilities which will help them appreciate and enjoy biodiversity.”
