Modern Slavery in the supply chain

The Modern Slavery Act was introduced in the UK in 2015. This important legislation requires businesses to make public the steps being taken to ensure that slavery and human trafficking do not exist in the supply chain. As a responsible and ethical business, Tarmac fully supports all efforts to combat any abuse of human rights.

In June 2016, Tarmac partnered with Action Sustainability to deliver training on Modern Slavery in the Supply Chain. Along with Tarmac employees from the Procurement, Sustainability, Legal and Human Resources teams, we invited a number of key supply chain partners, and customers.

The event was designed to raise awareness and increase understanding of the risk in relation to Modern Slavery in the Supply Chain. The attendees learnt about the legal requirements and ethical issues in this area, in combination with some real life case studies relating to this issue.

Tarmac were assisted in the running of the event by Action Sustainability, who presented the material and ran interactive and informative sessions on legal requirements and the great ways an organisation can take a proactive approach to tackling Modern Slavery in the Supply Chain.

Tarmac have now included specific checks regarding Modern Slavery in the engagement of our Supply Chain particularly in our approach to supplier assurance.
