Holborough Wood in Kent has been recognised for its sustainable woodland and been awarded the UK Woodland Assurance Standard (UKWAS).

UKWAS is an independent certification standard for verifying sustainable woodland management and provides a guarantee that wood comes from sustainable managed woodlands.

The standard recognises woodlands which are only managed to the highest standards in environmental and community care, that the wood has full traceability and that the woodland has a programme of replacement planting.

Stuart Wykes, director for Land and Natural Resources, said: “Sustainable woodland management is at the heart of how we look after our land and we are thrilled to have passed the rigorous UKWAS audit.

“Gaining certification means being assessed against criteria that includes management planning, woodland design, operations, conservation and enhancement of biodiversity.

“The five-year accreditation clearly demonstrates our environmental and social credentials.”
